Darling’s is a small, ethical, family-run dog food company. We believe that dogs should eat the same sort of diet that they would enjoy if they lived in the wild.

This isn’t some romantic notion of ours. There is a growing body of evidence that modern, processed dog food is actually bad for dogs whereas if they eat the diet that nature intended for them – that is to say raw, fresh meat, bones and vegetables – they are both healthier and happier.

What we offer, therefore, is a range of raw, fresh dog foods, bones, chicken wings, biscuits and treats. We prepare everything to order using locally produced ingredients and all our recipes have been designed and approved by Darling’s own Chief Veterinary Surgeon.

Given the quality of the ingredients and the personal nature of our service you may be surprised by how little it costs. We can feed a small dog for around 99p a day including treats, a medium sized dog for £1.65 and a large dog for £2.50. Not a high price for knowing that your dog is getting the best.

Dogs and their wolf ancestors have been eating raw food for over a million years. It is what their teeth and digestive systems are designed for and, as you can imagine, they thrive on it.

Benefits include a glossy coat, healthy skin, lean muscle tone, robust immune system, sweet smelling breath, healthy teeth and gums, increased energy, better digestion, strong heart and more energy and vitality.

Dogs eating a raw food diet can be expected to live longer and to suffer less illness and disease. Indeed, if your dog has any health issues now (even minor problems such as allergies, dry skin, bad breath and what the Americans refer to, euphemistically, as ‘gas’) it is quite likely that a switch to a raw food diet will clear them up.

The core element of Darling’s is our raw, fresh dog food – and we’re not exaggerating when we say dogs go crazy for it.

We make it using lean, minced meat (choose from free-range chicken, prime beef, tender lamb, wild rabbit and tasty tripe), grated vegetables and a natural mineral and vitamin supplement. What about the all important bone element – so crucial to your dog’s health? We grind the bone (so that it can barely be seen) and mix it in.

We also supply individual bones in convenient sizes as well as chicken wings, handmade biscuits and treats.

One of the first things you’ll notice if you decide to feed your dog Darling’s is that we take a very personal approach.

It isn’t just that we want to know your dog’s name we also want to know his or her vital statistics, medical history, lifestyle, preferences and personality. A photograph would be helpful, too, so that we can see what he or she looks like.

Why the fuss?

We prepare all our dog food to order. Armed with the information you provide (together with your feedback) we can adjust the ingredients and quantities on an ongoing basis so as to best meet your dog’s needs.

It costs much less than you might expect to feed your dog with Darling’s. We keep the cost down by dealing direct with our customers (so no profit to retailers or wholesalers) and by not advertising. The price is linked to the exact weight of your dog and will be calculated for you as part of the order process. Here are some typical examples:

When we say Darling’s is fresh, by the way, we mean fresh. Our aim is get everything from field to Fido (or Fifi) in under four days – which is considerably faster than the food you find in most supermarkets. Naturally, we don’t use any additives, preservatives or nasty chemicals.

After you supply us with your dog's details and preferences we make up his or her food in our kitchens.

The next stage is packing and shipping. The food and treats for each day are placed into separate containers and labelled. This is then packed (together with feeding notes) into insulated, recyclable boxes containing freezer blocks and despatched to you using an overnight delivery service. Incidentally, our packaging keeps food cool for up to 48 hours.

When the shipment arrives we ask you to take it out of the box and put it into your freezer. We suggest that before going to bed every night you simply remove the following day’s food from the freezer so that it has a chance to defrost.

We ask you to keep us up to date with any changes in your dog’s health or lifestyle so that we can adjust his or her diet if necessary. A week before we are due to make up the next month’s supply we contact you to check everything we plan meets with your agreement and then we repeat the whole process.

The best way to discover if Darling’s Real Dog Food is everything we promise, is to test it. Our minimum order is for 28 days of food BUT as a new customer we’ll give you the first week of food for free.

We are proud to say that almost all our customers come to us by word of mouth. In order to ensure that we maintain our reputation for quality, service and integrity we guarantee that your food will arrive in first class condition on the promised date. If you are dissatisfied with the quality of our food simply follow the instructions in the delivery box and we will refund the cost in full and without argument.
